The Pink Place
The Pink Place (and The Blue Space for men) provides FREE wellbeing services, support, counselling and Mindfulness to adults affected by cancer, from initial diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond. Operating with the support of Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support Services, The Pink Place offers a range of services including complementary therapies, nutrition advice, hair services and advice (before, during and after chemotherapy), beauty services and advice (nail and skin care) and very importantly counselling support and Mindfulness classes.
When Covid19 hit in March 2020, our aim was to quickly adapt our services to combat the impact on the mental health, anxiety and isolation of those facing additional challenges due to a cancer diagnosis. We are very proud to have achieved this and with the use of technology, we adapted to provide up to 9 weekly support sessions which included ‘virtual’ emotional support, mindfulness and counselling combined with friendship coffee and chat, exercise classes specifically designed for cancer patients, craft sessions, and a range of Guest Speaker talks; all our sessions included plenty of positivity and laughter. Our telephone support line and email support has also been open throughout and continues to be extremely busy.
The following are examples of some of the amazing feedback:
Lesley – “I just wanted to say that the Pink Place has been a lifesaver to me during this awful time. The regular virtual coffee mornings have been such a big part of my life through all of this, giving me something else to focus on rather than my cancer. Being able to talk to others in the same situation & hear how they are coping & just to have a laugh with them has helped me so much. Knowing that you are there for us, even on the bad days is just wonderful. I can’t thank you enough for all that you do”
Rob – “I am indebted to you. You give me a reason to get out of bed each morning and face the day ahead. I don’t know what would have happened to me during this time, particularly when dark thoughts creep in.
Our charity relies on a calendar of Fundraising Events to help fund our charity and the cancellation of all of those events throughout 2020 and into 2021 due to Covid, has left a huge hole in our finances. If you would like to support us by running on behalf of The Pink Place, we would love to hear from you. Email us at email@example.com or call us on 07899 970841. We will be there on the day to cheer everyone on their way!
