This is a great town based route giving you a flavour of all the different parts of Basingstoke’s town centre starting and finishing in the buzz of Festival Square. Remember this is an urban route and consequently there are lots of trip hazards, changes of surface, kerbs and street furniture to avoid. We will do our best to warn you of everything, but you still need to take care and listen out for instructions from marshals especially when crossing roads – you won’t get a PB if you get yourself run over!

Festival Place

The first half kilometre is through Festival Place – one of the biggest and best shopping centres in the south and the only one to host a UKA licensed race. Enter from Festival Square you turn right along the mall towards Next, then left up the slope to Porchester Square and turn left in front of Marks & Spencer then right by Monsoon and left by TKMAXX before emerging into Church Street.

Then its up the hill and turn left at the top around the trees in Market Place then back down the hill, past the famous Wote Street Willy and around the side of Debenhams. You have now completed the the first kilometre.

Now you are more or less back at the startline but you continue on through Festival Square past all the restaurants and out under the bridge towards the fountains then take a left to take you into the centre of Eastrop roundabout then continue through an underpass to bring you out in front of the new John Lewis, go up the slope, cross the road and go left along the front of Waitrose and follow the side of the building to the right up the hill, keep straight ahead on Basing View, passing the 2 k marker.

Matrix House Basingstoke

Keep going along the footpath along the straight, then follow round to the right down to a mini roundabout. Keep right and go round the corner staying on the pavement. Now you are on the lower part of Basing View, keep going until you reach the small parade of shops then cross over to the other side and take a left through the underpass back to the fountains area. You should have now passed the 3k marker.

Eastrop Park

The fourth kilometre takes you on a scenic loop of Eastrop Park – passing the paddling pool and boating lake, at the furthest point you reach the 4k marker.

Brackenwood Festival 5k run Basingstoke

The last kilometre takes you straight back through the park, and into Festival Square with the finish line right near where you started. Congratulations you made it!

This course has been accurately measured as 5k by the UKA, remember that your sat nav may not work properly within the shopping centre, but be assured it is the correct distance!

Parking and toilets are in Festival Place and you can collect your running number from 8.30 (the desk is next to Wagamamas) – the race starts promptly at 9.30am.
