Famed for its history, Old Basing in north-east Hampshire, UK, shot to national prominence in 1645 when Oliver Cromwell led his troops in the English Civil War to end a two-year siege of the great Basing House – home to the loyalist Paulet family.
Today, this thriving yet still picturesque parish on the eastern outskirts of Basingstoke comprises the village of Old Basing and the newer development at Lychpit.
Old Basing has village pubs, a church, local shops and post office and Infant and Junior Schools and of course Basing House. Nearby Lychpit is a popular and established residential area served by local shops and the larger Chineham Centre (Tesco, Boots, Next, Matalan) and the Great Binfields Primary School.
