BIG GREEN SCIENCE NIGHT
On this not-to-be-missed highlight of Basingstoke Green Week, attend a talk of your choice based on the science behind being more ‘green’ at 6.30pm, followed by a family friendly TV gameshow style interactive talk: ‘The Burger Apocalypse’ at 8pm.
There will also be a chance to chat to others and meet volunteers from a wide range of community groups with a ‘green’ theme. Sandwiches and a drink included in the ticket price.
Choice of talks:
1. Capturing Carbon in Your Garden (& The Burger Apocalypse)
Carbon is essential for life and It is mostly stored in the soil. This talk will discover how soil creatures recycle carbon and how biodiversity, composting, mulching and good gardening help them to do this work.
2. Thermal Imaging (&The Burger Apocalypse)
After a short introduction giving simple tips on how to reduce the amount of energy you use in your home, Adam Trickett will explain how thermal imaging can provide further information on heat loss. Using examples of previous surveys, Adam will demonstrate how and where heat escapes from your home and give guidance on how this can be prevented.
3. Renewable energy – Is it all it is cracked up to be? (&The Burger Apocalypse)

Is climate change real? Does renewable energy really work? Here is a chance to find out a bit more and ask all the questions you want to about some of the biggest issues facing us and the next generation.
4. Upcycling Your Old Clothing (& The Burger Apocalypse)
Don’t throw away your old clothing – upcycle it into something more stylish, more fashionable, more wearable. Join Sarah as she takes you through a variety of techniques and ideas to get your creativity flowing!
