Investing in the UK


The UK is a centre of excellence in business acumen, facilities and infrastructure, internationally renowned science and innovation networks, capital flows and investment, powerful support structures and international links.

The UK received foreign direct investment from 53 countries in 2008/09; totalling 1,744 inward investment projects, and remained as the number one investment location in Europe. Two hundred and fifty companies established headquarters operations here in 2008/09.

Outstanding universities, its globally renowned reputation for R&D, as well as its firmly established export channels have helped create an excellent reputation in life sciences, ICT,  energy, advanced engineering, and creative industry sectors.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) figures confirmed the UK to be ahead of the global competition in receipt of US$1,348 billion of stock of foreign investment with a global market share of 8.9 per cent

Investment performance was strong across a wide range of sectors, including ICT and life sciences. Significant increases were reported in creative industries, software, computer services and business services.

Service sector projects were up by 26%, while manufacturing investment increased by 18%, The UK continues to be in the top six leading manufacturing nations in the world.
